The format
You are a maker or a judge — check with your facilitator if unsure.
Makers work in teams. Name your team at the start.
Round 1: replicate The 101 cocktail with one creative choice.
Round 2: The Build. Choose a drink off the recipe card cheat sheet.
Round 3: full creative freedom. Name it, build it, pitch it.
The maker–judge relationship
In Rounds 2 and 3, ask your judge what they want before you build.
Read them. Build something for them, not just for the score.
Ask if they want it as a cocktail or mocktail — every time.
Judges: score honestly. The Palate Award goes to the sharpest palate, not the most generous one.

A few pointers
Shake for citrus, stir for spirit-forward.
If it has juice, shake it. If it's just spirits, stir it.
Fresh ice, every round.
Melted ice waters down a drink fast. Judges notice.
Garnish last, garnish deliberately.
It's the first thing a judge sees. Make it count.
Always use a jigger.
Eyeballing pours is how a great cocktail becomes an inconsistent one, round to round.
Slow down on the pour.
A rushed pour leads to inconsistencies.
Ask your judge what they actually like before you build.
That's half the score right there.
Talk to your judges while you work.
The room remembers who they had fun with, not just what they drank.
Don't stress about being fast.
